The victims were identified as Shahbaz and his cousin Babu Khan (20).

Police said the two were returning home after dropping off Shahbaz’s sister at the main road, from where she hired an auto-rickshaw to go to her Seelampur residence, when they were attacked by unknown assailants.

According to police,Shahbaz had an old rivalry with one Shahnawaz, who indulges in betting. Around a year-and-half ago,Shahnawaz had shot at Shahbaz, injuring him in the right arm. After Shahbaz filed a case,he was reportedly threatened by Shahnawaz to withdraw it.

Police said Shahnawaz met Shahbaz’s sister Tahira in her house on Saturday and threatened to harm the family if the case was not withdrawn. Tahira then went to her brother’s house to alert him.

The family alleged that Shahnawaz was behind the murders.

The bodies were handed over to the victims’ families after post mortem.

“We have recorded the statement of the family and are investigating all angles,” police said.
