Masters in Mathematical Education Forms to be issued from Monday, entrance test on December 2.
The admission process for the meta-university course between Delhi University and Jamia Millia Islamia Masters in Mathematical Education will begin on October 29,officials said on Monday.
According to a letter by Delhi University Registrar Alka Sharma, the two-year programme will have around 20 seats. While the entrance test for the course has been scheduled for December 2,the session will start on January 3,2013.
The hour-long entrance exam will test students mathematical and reasoning skills, general awareness and communications skills. The test will be followed by an interview on December 11 and 12. The interview carries 25 per cent weightage.
While Delhi Universitys meta-college course had started earlier this year, there was a delay in the introduction of the meta-university course. We got approval from our Academic Council only in September. We had to take care of various modalities before the admission process could start, Madan Chaturvedi,Head of the Cluster Innovation Centre, said.
After the UGC gave us a mandate for the joint degree programme, the course could have begun in October. However, this would have meant that only students from Delhi University or Jamia would have applied for the course. Students from across the country can seek admission to the course, Chaturvedi said.
According to the admission criteria mentioned on the university website,an applicant needs to have cleared at least two papers in mathematics, each carrying 100 marks.
In the meta-university course, each paper will carry a fixed number of credits. While some credits will be given for theoretical work, some will be for hands-on work that a student does as part of the paper, Chaturvedi said.
Students will also be given grades on the basis of tests and assignments. There will be two kinds of evaluation for grades continuous and end-of-semester assessment, he said. The student will also be required to submit an innovation project at the end of every semester, which carries five credits.
The Cluster Innovation Centre and the Institute of Life Long Learning as well as Centre for Education will conduct the course in Delhi University.
At Jamia, the AJK Mass Communication centre will conduct nine courses.
