Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Swati Maliwal, who made a last ditch attempt in the Supreme Court to stop the release of the juvenile convict in the December 16 gangrape case, on Monday said, “This country has failed to get justice for the victim.”
After the apex court dismissed her petition, Maliwal said the apex court did hear her plea for half an hour and shared her concerns.
However, the court was unable to provide relief due to the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.
“Feel extremely disappointed. It’s a dark day in history of the country. Women need to now put aside candles and take up ‘Mashals’ (torches) for change,” tweeted Maliwal.
“In three years, the Juvenile Justice Amendment Bill was not passed by Rajya Sabha. If this Bill is not passed tomorrow, it will be a slap in the faces of all rape victims,” she told The Indian Express.
