Fisticuff between Delhi Police and Crime Branch personnel at Kamla Market, five officers sent to district lines.

A fisticuff with criminals might be a regular occurrence in the lives of most police personnel, but a fight between personnel of two police wings left the personnel of the Delhi Police and the Crime Branch looking rather sheepish.

Five police personnel from Kamla Market police station were sent to the district lines, after they clashed with the Crime Branch officers during an operation at G B Road in Kamla Market.

Eyewitnesses told the senior officers that on the night of April 29,several personnel of the Special Investigation team of the Crime Branch were standing at G B Road in Kamla Market waiting to arrest the leader of the burgle-and-burn gang Sanju.

The sleuths were spotted by a beat constable. Unaware of their identity, the constable asked them about their presence in the area, which escalated into a scuffle. “There was a scuffle between the officers of the Central district and the Crime Branch. It was a clash of egos between both the parties. The local police initially questioned their presence and asked them to produce their identity cards. The Crime Branch officers refused to show them. The incident was escalated for no reason. There are allegations of both sides resorting to physical violence. We are taking the statement from both parties,” said a police officer.

The Inspector (Anti-Terrorist Operations),Kamla Market police station, also rushed to the spot but could not quell the situation. Sources said the two inspectors, also got into a tiff at the spot.

Senior police officials have also transferred the Inspector to the district lines for failing to act. Apart from him,a head constable and three constables have been sent to the district lines as well.
