The picture of head constable 32-year-old Ram Kunwar Meena on a mobile messaging application shows both his children wearing caps resembling those of the armed forces.
He died while on duty, escorting a “high risk” undertrial, the intended target.
The news of his killing did not reach his wife till Wednesday evening. “We did not want her to be shocked,” said Meena’s neighbour Mukesh, who later informed her.
Even as the police waited for Meena’s post-mortem, his family moved to his their home in Indragarh, about 12 km from Jaipur.
Meena lived with his family in West Delhi’s Mohan Garden area. His seven-year-old son Vishnu is in a school in Vikaspuri and four-year-old daughter Shivani is in play school.
His neighbours said he had a deep interest in sports and played cricket whenever he got time.
“He always kept a bat and a tennis ball and played in a farm area near his home. He was a passionate cricket player. Last Sunday he asked me to play, but I could not turn up,” said Mukesh. He added that Meena’s duty hours gave him time to play in the evening. “His cricket kept him fit and helped in his duty as a policeman,” said Mukesh.
