Complaint after Hindu outfits accuse Korean eateries in Gurgaon of serving beef

Teams of the food safety department along with the police visited two restaurants serving Korean cuisine in Gurgaon after members of a few Hindu outfits filed a complaint with the police and CM Manohar Lal Khattar, accusing the eateries of serving “cow meat”. While the staff of the restaurants said they were serving buffalo meat, police said they would conduct further inquiry.

The complaint was filed in the matter by Kulbhushan Bharadwaj, a member of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad, following an Instagram video by a vlogger purportedly consuming a beef dish. Bharadwaj said: “These restaurant owners, for their personal benefit, are disobeying the orders of the government…and serving beef openly…If immediate action is not taken against them, all Hindu organisations will be forced to unite and take action…”

Nitish Aggarwal, DCP (East), said, “We are currently inquiring about the incident. Since there is legislation in the state banning cow slaughter, we will take action by coordinating with the food safety department.”

Staff at one of the restaurants confirmed a team from the food safety department visited their premises on Tuesday. “We are not aware of the complaint. The officers who came asked if we were serving beef,” he said. The manager of the other restaurant said it only served the meat of buffalo, not cow. “Five-six policemen visited our restaurant and asked for all our certificates, including the FSSAI one. They have also taken some samples.
