Following the division of Delhi into 11 Judicial districts earlier this year,a committee has been created to look into the question of jurisdiction of two Juvenile Justice Boards (JJB) in Delhi.
With modifications in the territories of the judicial districts, the distribution of jurisdiction between the two JJBs one
at Kingsway Camp and the other at Delhi Gate will now be
redrawn to comply with the districts.
The committee, which is to be headed by Additional Sessions Judge Anuradha Shukla Bhardwaj, also includes chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vidya Prakash and the sitting principal Magistrates of the two JJBs.
At present, the two JJBs are operating according to the old distribution of districts.
The committee, which was created by an order passed by District Judge A K Chawla on June 27,will also look into the issue of how to dispose off the accumulated records of old cases of the JJBs.
While Rule 99 of the Delhi Juvenile Justice Rules stipulates that records should be destroyed after a period of seven years, there is at present no clear system for it,even though the JJBs have been in operation since 2003.
According to sources, the Delhi High Court Juvenile Justice Committee had recently recommended framing of a proper system for disposal of records to comply with the Juvenile Justice rules.
