A 28-year-old collection agent, working for a security services agency, was allegedly robbed of Rs 24 lakh by bike-borne assailants near Ghazipur flyover on Monday afternoon.
The agent, Nitin Shukla, was on his way to deposit money in a cash van of the agency when the assailants intercepted his two-wheeler and robbed him at gunpoint, police said.
A senior police officer said, “Shukla was to collect the cash from several banks on behalf of their clients and deliver it to given locations. He was on his way to deposit it in the agency’s van, when two bike-borne assailants intercepted his vehicle and snatched the bag.”
When Shukla tried to resist the robbery bid, one of the accused whipped out a pistol. Shukla was also punched on his face. The accused pushed him and his two wheelers before fleeing the spot. Eyewitnesses told police that when passersby tried to intervene, the assailants pointed the pistols at them and threatened to open fire.
Police suspect an insider’s involvement in the case as the accused were aware that the collection agent would be carrying the cash to the van.
“We have asked Shukla to give us a detailed layout of the places he visited throughout the day and the people he spoke to. We will also try to access the CCTV footage of the markets Shukla visited to ascertain if someone was following him. We have recorded the statements of the eyewitnesses. We will also ask them to give a detailed description of the assailants to help us identify them,” a police officer said.
Police said they had contacted the security services agency and asked them for details of their employees. Call detail records of the employees
will also be accessed by police.
A case of robbery has been registered against unidentified men and the investigation is on, police said.
