Dr Narhari Singh Bangar, a 2011-batch IAS officer, took charge as the Commissioner of Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon on Wednesday. Following his appointment, he said that his priority would be to ensure cleanliness in the city.

Earlier, Bangar had served as the director of the Haryana Agriculture Department and in various capacities at the Gurgaon district administration and has also worked as an additional commissioner in the MCG. He appealed to the residents of the city to cooperate with the civic body for ensuring cleanliness.

On the delays in setting-up a waste-to-energy plant at Bandhwari landfill, Dr Banger said, “A private firm had to set up a waste-to-energy plant. However, they failed and we have not achieved the waste disposal capacity that we need to. I will examine the issue and ensure a resolution. The NGT has called us, and we will inform the board of this and submit a plan.”

He added that he will sensitise and inform officers at MCG to be proactive on different fronts, including water-seepage issues and road construction.

Speaking about encroachments, Banger said measures will be taken to clear such unauthorised constructions. On waterlogging, the new commissioner said the drains will be desilted and cleaned to make sure there are no blocks which cause waterlogging. He added that they have also carried out a study to identify the low-lying areas of the city.

Banger replaces PC Meena, former GMDA CEO, who took charge as the DHBVN managing director.

Meanwhile, sanitation workers, who have been on strike since October, called off the protest on Tuesday, officials said. They added that the workers are expected to slowly pour in and 300 of them already joined work on Wednesday.
