The civic agency’s sanction of funds on allegedly inflated bills produced by contractors has come under the scanner. The corporation had allegedly approved bills of crores of rupees for work that cost under Rs 60 lakh.

Leader of Opposition Mukesh Goel spoke about alleged suspicious transactions in projects like Sawan Park and Roshnara Road RUB. He demanded an explanation from North corporation Commissioner P K Gupta on how the civic agency approved bills of Rs 7 crore for a project that cost less than Rs 50 lakh.

Gupta told the House that for the two RUBs,which were to be completed before the Commonwealth Games, the contractor had to do earth filling and estimates given to the corporation were much higher than actual cost incurred on the work. But,as Delhi government did not release the funds on time, the approved bill of crores of rupees was not released.

“For the Sawan Park RUB,the work was of approximately Rs 30 lakh and a bill of Rs 3.92 crore was approved by officials. For Roshnara Bagh RUB,a bill of Rs 3.18 crore was raised and approved. In an internal audit,we stumbled upon this information and are probing the matter. We assure that no money was lost and one of the officials,Rajesh Khanna, has been put under suspension,” Gupta said.
