City readies for immersion of idols

Rescue boats with lifeguards, defence volunteers and Delhi Police personnel will be deployed to manage the crowd and prevent accidents, officials said.

The District Administration (East) said necessary precautions have been put in place to prevent any untoward incidents during immersion of Durga idols on Saturday.

Officials said wooden barricades have been erected at a distance of three metres in the Yamuna.

“Devotees will not be allowed to go beyond this point. Display boards have been fixed at prominent places informing ‘Do’s and Don’ts for devotees,” an official said.

Rescue boats with lifeguards, defence volunteers and Delhi Police personnel will be deployed to manage the crowd and prevent accidents, officials said.

Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Kunal said, “There will be only two ghats — Mayur Vihar and Geeta Colony — where idols can be immersed in East district. Teams of lifeguards with rescue boats will be patrolling the river to ensure that no one drowns.”

The administration has also issued an appeal to follow instructions of ground staff in keeping the river clean.

Traffic police said personnel will be deployed throughout the city.
