City briefs : DJB repairs to hit supply on May 1,2

Several areas in West and Outer Delhi will be without water next week.

NEW DELHI:Several areas in West and Outer Delhi will be without water next week. The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) will repair a water main in Narela on May 1 and in Bakhtawarpur,Jhangola,Tigipur,Narela Industrial Area,regularised villages and several other villages on May 2. Due to shifting of another main to make way for a Metro station near Janmasthami Park,Punjabi Bagh,the water supply in the area will be affected on the evening of May 2.

13-year-old gangrape victim attempts suicide

NEW DELHI:A 13-year-old gangrape victim from East Delhi,who was admitted to AIIMS after she tried to commit suicide,made another attempt to end her life at the hospital on Sunday night. The victim reportedly took an overdose of her medicines and locked herself inside the hospital bathroom. She was rescued by hospital authorities. Hospital authorities said the victim was stable.

Rickshaw puller held for raping 6-yr-old

NEW DELHI:A 35-year-old rickshaw puller was arrested on the charge of raping a six-year-old girl,his neighbour,in his house in West Delhi on Sunday. The girl was playing near his house when Shambhu Sah lured her to his house and raped her. The girl’s medical examination confirmed rape.

CM asks Home Minister not to transfer officials

New Delhi:Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday requested Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde not to effect any unilateral transfer of senior officials of her government as it may hamper implementation of a number of key schemes. In a meeting with Shinde,Dikshit also urged him to fill the vacant posts at senior level at the earliest.

Inquiry into Gurgaon survey on hawkers

Gurgaon:An inquiry has been ordered into alleged irregularities in a survey on street vendors and hawkers commissioned by the Municipal Corporation,Gurgaon,following instructions from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner P C Meena ordered a probe after a direction from the Prime Minister,whose intervention was sought by an NGO,People’s Voice.

Free LPG cylinders,gas stoves for the poor

New Delhi:Around one lakh poor families have been given free LPG cylinders and gas stoves under an ambitious scheme launched by the Delhi government to end the use of kerosene. “More than one lakh people have been provided LPG connection with cylinder and gas stoves so far,under the Kerosene-Free Delhi Scheme,” Food and Supplies Minister Harun Yusuf said.

Man held for helping 2 escape from custody

New Delhi:A youth was arrested for allegedly helping two of his gang members escape from Haryana police custody,police said on Monday. Sumit was apprehended from Dhansa-Najafgarh road on Sunday,police said.
