The CBI laid a trap and caught both officers while they were accepting Rs 2.5 lakh from the complainant.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a head constable and a constable of Delhi Police, posted at South West Delhi’s Sagarpur police station, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh from a complainant.
According to the CBI, the case was registered on Wednesday, following a complaint against the two police officials. “It was alleged that police officials, including the accused, demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from the complainant for not implicating the complainant in an NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985,) case. After negotiation, the accused agreed to accept a bribe of R. 3 lakh from the complainant,” CBI officials said.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught both officers while they were accepting Rs 2.5 lakh from the complainant. Subsequently, both were arrested. A CBI spokesperson confirmed that an investigation is underway to uncover further details related to the case.
The Indian Express reached out to Delhi Police and an official response is awaited.
