Call centre employees held for chain snatching

The two accused, Tara Chand Sharma (21) and Pradeep Jha (21), on Monday attempted to snatch a passerby’s chain.

Police have arrested two graduates for their involvement over a dozen cases of snatching. The two are employed with a private e-shopping website.

“The two accused, Tara Chand Sharma (21) and Pradeep Jha (21), on Monday attempted to snatch a passerby’s chain. The incident was reported around 6 pm in Madhu Vihar. The woman, Sita, however, resisted and raised the alarm. While people in the area rushed in to help her, the two tried to flee on a bike. However, Sharma slipped and fell of the bike, while Jha fled. Locals handed over Sharma to police,” an officer said.

Sharma was questioned, and based on the information, Jha was arrested around at 2 am on Tuesday.

Police said Sharma was pursuing a correspondence BA course in Delhi, while Jha has a Bachelor of Science degree from Hindustan University, Chennai.

Police said the gold stolen by the two has been recovered and their bike has been impounded. An FIR has been lodged under IPC sections 392 (robbery) and 411 (intentionally retaining stolen property).
