A businessman was killed and two others were critically injured when an Audi they were travelling in collided with a truck on Tolstoy Marg, New Delhi district, in the early hours of Tuesday. In an operation that lasted an hour, the three were pulled out of the car with the help of gas cutters, police said.
According to police, businessman Intezar (30) and his friends Suman (22) and Suchiv (23) were going towards Mandi House after attending a wedding in Connaught Place.
A police officer said, “The incident took place around 1.45 am on Tuesday. The three were returning from a wedding in a white Audi when it hit the side of a truck on Tolstoy Marg. The car and the truck collided with such great force that the entire front portion of the Audi was completely destroyed. Intezar was driving and was killed immediately. Suman and Suchiv were seriously injured and are said to be critical. A police picket in the area was alerted and policemen rushed to the spot.”
Police said it was not clear which of the two vehicles was speeding. However, a case under Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304 A (negligence) of the IPC has been registered. The truck driver is absconding and police said they were trying to track him down. However, police denied that it was a case of drunk driving.
According to police, it it took an hour to pull the three out of the car. Police said they used gas cutters to slice off the mangled front portion. Only after that could the three be rescued. Police said they were rushed to hospital in police vans and Intezar was declared brought dead.
Police said Intezar, owner of the Audi, owns a Noida-based infrastructure company called Zyphyr. Suman and Suchiv are his employees.
