A 57-year-old joint secretary-level official and his wife were found dead in their apartment in Southeast Delhis Kaka Nagar area on Friday evening.
Police said K Vijay Kumar,who worked as an advisor (costing) with the Food Ministry,was found with his throat slit. The body of his wife Sita,who worked as a manager with the Canara Bank,was found hanging in one of the room.
Police said the couple had CCTV cameras installed in the house. Police are verifying the footage.
According to police,the door was locked from inside and the house was not ransacked. Police suspect it to be a case of murder and suicide.
The incident was reported after their daughter,who was away on a trip to Rajasthan with her friends,returned home on Friday morning. Police said she rang the bell repeatedly,but no one responded. She then began calling her father on his mobile but got no response.
Thinking that her father may have left for work,she called his office. His colleagues told her that Kumar had not come to office on Friday. The colleagues in turn alerted police, a senior police officer said.
The police reached the spot around 5 pm and broke open the door to find the couple dead. We had to break open the door as it was locked from inside. The house was not ransacked. Sitas body was found hanging from the ceiling fan,with the knees touching the floor. Kumar was found dead with his throat slit, the officer said.
The domestic help told police that she had rung the bell around 7.30 am,but when no one opened the door,she left thinking that the couple may have gone out.
Police have registered a case and are investigating.
