A 23-year-old BTech student was killed and three others injured after the Toyota Corolla in which they were travelling crashed into a divider on Vikas Marg in Preet Vihar area of East Delhi. The incident happened around 2 am on Sunday. Shubneet Bishnoi,the BTech student, along with five friends including three girls was on his way to India Gate after watching a movie in Noida.
Nikita (20),Gurjeet (21) and Shubham (19) who were injured in the accident are yet to be discharged from hospital. Two others,Kavita (21) and Chhavi (22),who had suffered minor injuries were discharged from LBS Hospital after first-aid.
While police said that none of the occupants of the car had consumed alcohol,investigating officers suspect that speeding may have resulted in the crash. They were all returning from Noida after watching a movie and were going to India Gate to have ice cream. The car first hit a divider and then an electricity pole and was thrown on to the other side of the road in the impact. The electric pole was uprooted in the crash. Shubneet Bishnoi,from Rampur in UP, suffered head injuries and was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival, said a police officer. He said the car was being driven by Bishnois friend Gurjeet.
A Delhi University student,Nikitas hand was dismembered in the crash. Doctors at the LBS Hospital,where she was rushed,immediately operated upon her. Shubham,another injured,is a Ranji player and represents Delhi in domestic cricket.
Eyewitnesses told police that the car was being driven at a very high speed and was hurled in the air after hitting the pole.
Bishnoi had come to stay with Gurjeet only a few days ago. All of them had gone to Gurjeets residence in Laxmi Nagar from Noida. Around 1.30 am,they decided to go to India Gate to have ice cream. We have informed the family members of Bishnoi, said a police officer.
