BSES to give cash rewards for power theft informers

The BSES Yamuna Power Limited(BYPL) has plans to launch a reward scheme in East and Central Delhi from the coming financial year.

“Power theft informers in East and Central Delhi whose tip-offs actually result in booking of power thieves would be given rewards ranging between Rs 250 and Rs 500,which will be credited into the consumers’ electricity bill,” an

official said.

The new call centre set up by the BYPL has helped report power theft cases to the tune Rs 5 crore in the last six months,the BYPL announced on Thursday.

Additionally,consumers have helped unearth power theft totalling 650 KW by reporting at the call centre. The call centre has also seen a surge in the number of requests for new connections to avail the company’s Door Step Service (DSS) with new connections totaling 29,000 KW of the sanctioned load in the last six months.

“Consumers no longer need to visit the company’s division office for new connections. They can dial 39999808 and opt for the DSS option. A representative visits the consumer and helps complete the formalities,” said BYPL CEO Ramesh Narayanan.
