The bodies of three children were recovered of a ditch at a metro construction site in Northwest Delhi’s Mukundpur Chowk on Friday, the police said. They drowned in the floodwater-filled ditch while they were taking a bath.
The boys were identified as Piyush, 13, Nikhil, 10 and Ashish, 13. All are residents of H Block at Jahangirpuri.
The Delhi Fire Services chief Atul Garg said they received a call at 2.56 pm informing them about three children drowning in the trench. “After a search, they were taken out of water and rushed to BJRM Hospital where all of them were declared dead on arrival,” said Garg.
The Delhi Metro, however, said no such incident took place at the site.
Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director, Corporate Communications, DMRC, said, “News is in circulation regarding the unfortunate demise of three children supposedly at a Metro construction site in Mukundpur. This is to clarify that absolutely no such incident has been reported from our sites. DMRC’s sites are properly barricaded and entry is strictly regulated only for authorised personnel.”
