Even though,Uday Veer, the principal of the MCD school in Bijwasan, where seven-year-old Mustakeem Ahmed of Class II was “accidentally” locked in the classroom on Wednesday night, had complained against the school’s security guard thrice before the lapse occurred, the MCD allegedly failed to take action, said the secretary of the MCD Teachers’ Association,Vibha Singh.

The MCD Education Committee has suspended the principal, the class teacher and the security guard.

After a horrifying night, the boy could come out of his classroom only the next day,as the school started its first shift.

The MCD building in Bijwasan runs two separate schools in the morning and the evening shift with different sets of staff.

“Had the MCD authorities acted on time, they could averted the incident,” said an MCD teacher not wishing to be named.

“Dharamveer, the security guard, had been shirking duties for a long time,” said a source. “He would hand over the keys of the gate to somebody and not turn up for work,” he said.

Though Ahmed’s parents have refused to register a formal complaint against the authorities,an MCD teacher from the morning shift has registered a complaint against the principal and the class teacher.

Mustakeem is a student of the school which runs in the second shift.

“Dharamveer, who has also been suspended, registered a complaint of negligence on the part of principal and the class teacher with the help of another teacher from the first shift school. He complained to the education inspector of Najafgarh zone,” said the secretary of the MCD Teachers’ Association.

“If the class teacher is responsible,so is the teacher who should have checked the classroom before leaving,” said chairman of the education committee Prithviraj Sahni.

The second shift school closes at 6 pm. “Dharamveer should have been in school by then. His duty starts at 5.30 pm,” said Singh. “Since the principal had already complained to the authorities, the guard thought that by registering a counter complaint against the principal,he would be able to save his skin,” said Singh.

Meanwhile,Ahmed’s mother,Shahnaz Bi said that,“I’ve got my child back,he is safe, and I don’t want to register any complaint.”
