In a bizarre incident,a 20-year-old student who was found hanging in his hostel room in Defence Colony, was brought down and taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he started breathing again. What puzzled the police is the fact that the boy revived even upon reaching the hospital more than an hour after he hanged himself.

According to police officers,on Thursday morning, the hostel warden noticed that the victim Mukesh Kumar Tiwari’s room was locked from inside and he had not gone to attend classes. After failing to get a response in spite of repeatedly knocking on the door, the warden informed the police at 7 am. The police arrived at the spot and broke down the door to find the victim hanging from the ceiling.

The police then took Tiwari to the AIIMS Trauma Centre with the intention of transferring his body to the mortuary. The police said that the PCR officer had claimed the boy was not breathing while he was being taken to the hospital. At the hospital,as the doctor on duty treated the boy,he suddenly started breathing. Tiwari is,however, yet to gain consciousness and is admitted in the ICU.

Police sources said Tiwari is a resident of Ara in Bihar and was preparing for medical entrance tests in the Capital. This is his third attempt and he was taking coaching classes at the Akash Institute in South Extension. He was staying at the Binayak Boy’s Hostel in Yusuf Sarai, officers added.

“We searched his clothes and found a suicide note,in which he said that he loved a girl in his class. The girl, however, did not reciprocate his feelings and instead had complained to the management about his advances. He was then warned by the authorities that he will not be allowed to continue classes unless he stopped approaching the girl. He was depressed about this and decided to end his life,” a senior police officer said.

Police said it is not yet clear when the boy took the step,as he was found in the morning. Police said that the time of his suicide attempt will be clear only after he regains consciousness and records a statement.

Tiwari’s parents have been informed and they were on their way, police said.
