The body of a five-year-old boy was found in a drain in Northeast Delhi’s Wazirabad area on Friday. According to police, it appeared that the boy was strangulated and the body dumped in the drain.
Police said inquiries revealed that the child, Vasu Gupta, the son of a small-time businessman, had gone missing on Thursday after he went out to play. A case of kidnapping and murder has been registered in Usmanpur.
According to police, Vasu had gone to play outside his house and did not return home till late night. His parents then approached police with a missing person complaint.
“The body had strangulation marks on the neck and injuries on the hands and arms. We have sent the body for the post-mortem examination. The exact cause of death will be known only when the report is out,” police said.
Vasu’s family accused police of inaction and a group gathered outside Usmanpur police station on Friday morning shouting slogans against police. “Police registered a case when he went missing, but did nothing to find our son. We made all effort on own own,” a relative said.
Since the family did not receive a call for ransom, police suspect it to be a case of personal enmity. Police are taking detailed statements of family members to nab the accused.
