Banka was admitted to Max Hospital in Saket where he was being treated.

DCP (South) Chandan Chowdhary later said it was revealed that Banka had sustained a gunshot injury after he shot himself in his washroom. “There was an entry wound in the right temple and exit from the left… Banka had a personal PSO, called Dinesh, and the weapon he used is licensed and belongs to the latter,” said the DCP.

The DCP added, “It appears he was in need of money and was asking people he knew to invest with him.” He succumbed to his injuries on Friday evening, added DCP Chowdhary.

Officers said that Banka also did a factory reset on his phone and locked it in the room’s cupboard before killing himself.

A senior police officer said the PSO was at a nearby park when the incident took place. “The PSO had to go for an event at a government office where carrying guns was not allowed, due to which Banka told Dinesh to keep the weapon inside his room,” said the officer.

Following the incident happened, the PSO and Banka’s parents rushed to the spot. “His PSO was private and did not require court permission… he had the PSO for several years now,” added the officer.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the BJYM Delhi unit said, “It is with great sadness (that) we have to inform all of you about the untimely demise of our Yuva Morcha colleague, Shri Karan Banka (General Secretary Yuva Morcha New Delhi District), today. The last rites will be performed on (September 23) at 2.30 pm at Lodhi Cremation Centre.”

Police said Banka’s autopsy report showed a right temporal region entry wound and left temporal region exit wound. His viscera has also been preserved, said officers.
