The BJP’s three MLAs met Lt-Governor Najeeb Jung to register their complaint against the “unconstitutional conduct” of the Speaker and the ruling party in Delhi Assembly.
During the meeting, the leader of the BJP legislature party, Vijender Gupta, raised the issue of “infringement on the constitutional and democratic rights of the opposition”. Gupta is said to have highlighted instances where the Speaker of the House, Ram Niwas Goel, allegedly acted in a biased manner.
Gupta alleged that deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is giving statements to the media stating that they would offer the Leader of Opposition (LoP) status to BJP only if it demands it.
“An impression is being created that the ruling party will be doing some profound service to the opposition by offering LoP status, something that is already prescribed in the rulebook,” Gupta said.
