The North Municipal Corporation on Monday unanimously elected BJP’s Mohan Bhardwaj as the chairman of its Standing Committee.
In politics since 1978, Bhardwaj represents Bankner (ward no. 2) constituency of the corporation. Speaking to Newsline, Bhardwaj said his primary focus was good governance and simplification of procedures.
“We want to work towards transparency in governance and I hope that we will get government support for this,” he said, adding “that the government would neither run from roadside nor from rooftop, but would only run by working in interest of people”.
Meanwhile, chairman of education committee Satish Upadhyay filed his nomination for the post of chairman of the south civic body’s Standing Committee.
Upadhyay is a BJP municipal councillor from Malviya Nagar constituency and is keen on involving the Residents’ Welfare Associations in an effort to interaction between the corporations and residential societies.
He also emphasised the need for a necessary “facelift” of the municipal corporations.
“We have to strengthen our efforts in areas such as sanitation, cleanliness and education. Greater transparency in the corporation is also my priority,” he said.
He is the only candidate to have filed for nomination for the post. The elections for the post will be held on January 16. The seat of chairman of Standing Committee was lying vacant after former chairman Rajesh Gehlot was elected as member of the Delhi Assembly.
