An Assistant Sub-Inspector was injured while trying to stop motorcycle riders from performing dangerous stunts near India Gate,past midnight on Sunday.
Four persons have been arrested for creating ruckus and assaulting ASI Rajbir Singh. Police said more than 40 bikers were creating a ruckus and performing dangerous stunts in the high-security area along Akbar Road.
A group of bikers came in an unruly pattern from Akbar Road side. Singh,who was on duty along with other traffic staff at C-Hexagon on Rajpath intersection,noticed the bikers and tried to stop an Enfield Bullet motorcycle,on which two persons were travelling, said Satyendra Garg,Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
Singh signalled the Bullet rider,Gajendra Pal (28),to stop,but he did not pay heed,an officer said.
Pals motorcycle hit Singh and he fell on the road. He suffered a fracture in his right hand, Garg said.
Pal lost control over the motorcycle and was nabbed by the traffic police personnel.
A case of assaulting a public servant and rash driving has been registered against him at the Tilak Marg police station. Three other motorcyclists Sonu alias Harjeet,Sohan Singh and Faizan were prosecuted for dangerous driving.
Asserting that the traffic police wanted to make India Gate safe from traffic violations,Garg said strict action will be taken against violators.
Singh and constable Prashant would be recommended for cash reward and commendation certificate,police said.
