The farmhouse,Jhankar Garden,on Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road a preferred wedding venue-and the nearby Claremont Hotel, were lit up on Sunday night.
But it was a wedding with a difference that was being celebrated: the names of the bride and the groom were nowhere mentioned outside the venue. And the only clue to the families involved came from the parking signs and brown posters which said Dinner hosted by DP Yadav, former minister,at Jhankar Garden.
There was heavy security outside hosts of plainclothes securitymen and a PCR van. For the brides brother,Vikas Yadav,an accused in a murder case, was attending her wedding.
Vikas allegedly murdered his sister Bharti Yadavs close friend Nitish Katara, and he is currently an undertrial in Tihar Jail. An accused in the Jessica Lall murder case as well,he allegedly murdered Nitish while on bail.
Bharti got married on Sunday to Yatin Rao,a Gurgaon-based MNC executive, who came in a two-horse carriage wedding procession from Claremont Hotel.
This time round, the High Court was wary of Vikas getting away, and had directed the police to use such devices and equipment at the venue of the wedding to ensure that Yadav does not flee with outside help. The police had feared that his bail request was a ruse to escape. The wedding, after all,was expected to be attended by over 2,000 to 3,000 guests, giving him cover enough to hoodwink the police.
Officials from Tihar jail present at the wedding, however, maintained that there was no such threat and an usual escort team of four to five policemen was sent with Vikas.
Vikas left Tihar at 4 pm and is expected to be back by early tomorrow morning after the ceremonies are over, said Sunil Kumar Gupta,Law Officer,Tihar Jail.
