A city court on Wednesday refused to register a separate FIR into complaints of a Ugandan woman who alleged that she was molested by unidentified assailants during a midnight raid on January 15.
On January 18, Metropolitan Magistrate Chetna Singh had directed police to register an FIR into similar allegations levelled by another Ugandan national. The DCP (South) on January 25 had told the court that an FIR had already been lodged in the incident and the second complainant had been examined as a witness during the investigation.
The magistrate accepted the DCP’s submissions and mentioned that a separate FIR into the same incident would create confusion. “The court has asked to club the two cases under one FIR… we are awaiting the court’s written order before deciding the future course of action,” Rakesh Sherawat, counsel representing the Ugandan women, said.
On January 15, a raid at Khirki Extension was conducted by Law Minister Somnath Bharti and AAP volunteers. Several women had approached the police, court and the Delhi Commission for Women claiming that they were assaulted during the raid.
