Behind burglary at woman’s home in Noida, a plot hatched five months ago
The plan was put into motion last week when six men from the gang targeted a woman in Noida
Police said that on February 22, the woman, Suman Yadav, was alone at her home in Noida’s Sector 61 when the incident took place Five months ago, a gang from Bihar hatched a plan — identify wealthy residents through their network in Delhi-NCR, infiltrate their homes, and then loot them, said police. The plan was put into motion last week when six men from the gang targeted a woman in Noida. They held her hostage and made off with Rs 60 lakh in cash and jewellery, and property papers, said police.
All six are now in police custody. While the Delhi Police arrested two men last week, the other four were nabbed by Noida Police on Saturday.
“The four suspects have been identified as Amit Kumar Rawat, Devendra Kumar alias Rahul, Guddu Kumar Kamat, and Raman Kamat. They hail from Bihar’s Madhubani district and were arrested by Noida’s Sector 58 police,” said Ram Badan Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noida.
“More than Rs 10 lakh stolen by them has also been recovered,” police said.
Police said that on February 22, the woman, Suman Yadav, was alone at her home in Noida’s Sector 61 when the incident took place. In her complaint to the Noida Police, she claimed their newly hired cook, Rahul, along with two accomplices, held her hostage.
On Saturday, police first arrested Raman from Bihar. “After questioning him, police then arrested the other three suspects, including Rahul. A total of Rs 6 lakh in cash was recovered from them,” said the Noida DCP.
Singh also said the Delhi Police, on February 25, arrested two people who were connected to this crime. “They were identified as Rajesh Rai and Praveen alias Sonu; Rs 4.7 lakh was recovered from them,” he said.
According to Singh, the accused admitted that they hatched the plan nearly five months ago while in Bihar. “They obtained SIM cards under different names. Raman and Amit then contacted people from their district who were already working as guards, domestic help, and cooks in Noida and other areas about jobs,” said Singh.
They were in luck.
“Suman and her husband needed a cook and told their daughter, who lives in Gurgaon, about it. Their daughter told her help, who turned to his cousin who helps men from Bihar get jobs. They then contacted the four suspects via a resident of Noida’s Sector 44,” said police.
“On the day of the theft, Rahul called his companions to the house. Guddu and Rajesh went in while Sonu, who works as a driver, waited outside. Amit and Raman kept watch on the street. The three in the house stole Rs 53 lakh in cash and jewellery. They took the keys of the family’s Fortuner,” said Singh.
“The suspects were aware that if they stepped out with a lot of items from the house, the guards would contact the house owners for verification. But no one would notice the owner’s car. So they fled in the vehicle and abandoned it later,” said DCP Singh.
The DCP also said the accused have a criminal history, with cases filed against Rajesh, Guddu and Amit in West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and the NCR.
According to police, Rajesh has a history of committing highly organised robberies across India. A class V dropout, police said his involvement in criminal activities began early and he quickly became notorious for his participation in violent heists.
“We are investigating the matter and further investigation is underway,” said the DCP.
