A photo exhibition depicting the evolution of Indian cinema was inaugurated on Tuesday afternoon at Rajiv Chowk Metro station by DMRC MD Mangu Singh, Ambassador of France to India Francois Richier and DMRC Director (Operations) Sharat Sharma. It will be open till March 20.
The exhibition portrays Indian cinema from the silent and black-and-white era to the present through the pictures of Padma Shri awardee photographer Pablo Bartholomew.
“The exhibition is titled ‘Film Industry: Then and Now’ and is being organised by DMRC in association with the Embassy of France,” Anuj Dayal, Chief Public Relations Officer (DMRC), said.
“This exhibition is a part of the Fete de la photo, a pan India initiative by French Embassy to depict art in public spaces, in which exhibitions will be taking place across eight cities of the country,” he said.
A spokesperson for the French Embassy said, “Artists whose works have been put on display include Dayanita Singh, Raghu Rai, Denis Felix, Laurent Laveder and Amit Mehra. The aim of the festival is to democratise photography by taking it out of art galleries and into the street for public viewing, making art accessible to all.”
Bartholomew, who was present at the inaugural function, said while this effort was commendable, more such efforts were required to raise awareness about art by displaying it to public at large.
“Although I am not talking about any specific commitment here, I certainly hope that DMRC goes ahead and uses more stations for such exhibitions,” he said.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police inaugurated a police assistance booth at Rajiv Chowk Metro station on Tuesday. This is the first such booth in the Delhi Metro, set up to tackle the rising number of commuters’ complaints. Delhi Police chief Bhim Sain Bassi was present.
