Will the real bar please stand up? Bar Association’s legal dispute for recognition reaches Supreme Court
The Supreme Court issued notice to the Bar Council of India (BCI), asking its view on a dispute between warring bar associations over recognition as the official bar body of Rouse Avenue District Court Complex.
The high court had observed "glaring infractions" in three Bar Associations: Rouse Avenue Bar Association, Delhi Rouse Avenue Court Bar Association and Rouse Avenue District Court Bar Association. The Supreme Court bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Augustine George Masih on Friday issued notice to the Bar Council of India (BCI), asking its view on a dispute between warring bar associations over recognition as the official bar body of Rouse Avenue District Court Complex, which was inaugurated in Delhi on April 8, 2019.
The dispute reached the Delhi High Court this April when the Rouse Avenue Bar Association approached it seeking recognition after the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) had declined its request on April 3, 2024. This association was registered on February 22, 2019, over a month before the Court complex was even inaugurated.
