Banker death: Truck was at speed above 100 kmph

A day after a speeding pick-up truck crashed into a Volkswagen Vento causing the death of a pregnant woman,a manager with the ICICI Bank,the police on Monday said the truck was being driven at more than 100 kmph.

A day after a speeding pick-up truck crashed into a Volkswagen Vento causing the death of a pregnant woman,a manager with the ICICI Bank,the police on Monday said the truck was being driven at more than 100 kmph.

Anupriya Nagarajan (27) was traveling with husband,Naveen,a software engineer,to Noida when a Tata Marshal pick-up truck crashed into their car.

A police officer said: “The driver,Raju,was driving at speeds of 100-130 kmph. Once Raju and Pradeep,who was sitting next to him,are discharged,we will arrest them.”

The Noida police went to LN Hospital on Monday and were told that Raju would take some time to recuperate.

SSP Praveen Kumar said,“An FIR under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving),304A (causing death by negligence),338 (causing grievous hurt,endangering life or personal safety of others) and 427 (mischief causing damage) has been registered with the Sector 58 police station.”

The victim’s family went to Garh Ganga on Monday for her last rites.

“We want justice. The administration should control drivers on the road. We will fight for her. The police have told us that they haven’t so far traced the owner of the truck. We hope they catch him soon,” said Natarajan Nagarajan,Anupriya’s father-in-law.
