Taking serious view of rapid depletion in groundwater level, the administration has imposed a ban on drilling of new borewells in Gurgaon with immediate effect.
This decision was taken in the meeting of advisory committee constituted under Deputy Commissioner R K Kataria for taking regulatory measures to maintain water table. The committee decided that henceforth no borewell will be drilled and if any person faced shortage of drinking water,he will have to seek permission from the technical committee, who will in turn ask for a report from HUDA and Water Supply and Sanitation department about water supply arrangements in that area. After investigation,if the problem was found genuine, permission would be granted.
The decision of the advisory committee will now be sent to Central Ground Water Authority for post facto approval.
