A 45-year-old attendant working in the AIIMS director’s office died of dengue on Thursday, according to hospital authorities.
However, municipal officials are yet to confirm dengue as the cause of the attendant’s death.
The AIIMS employee was admitted to the hospital on Friday with symptoms of fever and back pain, said sources.
“Tests confirmed that he was suffering from dengue. His condition started deteriorating and he had to be shifted to the ICU. He died of multi-organ failure,” said a source at the institute On Saturday, the death of a 21-year-old youth from dengue had triggered protests at AIIMS.
Over 500 members of the hospital’s workers’ union had held a candlelight march on campus, alleging that the patient — who was the son of an AIIMS technician — was not treated properly by doctors.
