A 22-year-old student of Amity University died after he was attacked with an axe and shot from a close range in Noida on Saturday, said police. The man, identified as Rama R Sandesh, was an undergraduate student of Marine Science. He lived in a rented apartment at Lotus Boulevard society, Noida Sector 100, along with two room-mates from the same university.
According to police, the incident took place at about 3.30 pm, when someone rang the doorbell of Sandesh’s apartment.
“His friend Nadeem, who was in his own room, heard Sandesh screaming ‘Aman, don’t kill me’. He then heard the sound of gunshots. When Nadeem rushed out, he saw the assailants fleeing the spot with an axe,” said Vijay Dhull, circle officer, city-1st, Gautam Budh Nagar.
The register, where the names of visitors to the society are recorded, also had the name of ‘Aman’, said police.
“The society does not have a single CCTV camera and we don’t have any leads yet on who the assailants were. However, we have identified a few persons with this name,” said Dhull.
“Prima facie, it appears that Sandesh died from both gunshot wounds and stab injuries. He had suffered multiple deep cuts, but we will know the actual cause of death only after we get the autopsy report,” he said. Police are not ruling out the possibility of “personal enmity”.
“After the incident, his friends are scared. Facts connected to the case may emerge once they calm down,” said Dhull.
