AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday targeted Delhi BJP state unit chief Satish Upadhyay, alleging a nexus between him and power distribution companies (discoms) in the capital. Kejriwal demanded that Upadhyay come clean on his involvement in six companies that are said to supply meters to discoms.

Kejriwal claimed that Satish Upadhyay was associated with six companies — NCNLInfomedia, New Delhi Communication Network, NCNL Infrastructure, FabrilonTwilles (India), NCNLTransomedia and NCNL Power.

Of these companies, NCNL Informedia was installing and replacing meters for BSES. Kejriwal further alleged that BJP leader Ashish Sood was a director of this company. BSES Rajdhani Power and BSES Yamuna Power are run by the Anil Ambani-run Reliance Group.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, Kejriwal said, “How many meters did these companies give to discoms? Why has the BJP appointed people, who provide services to discoms, as the president and vice-president? Satish Upadhyay should clarify the nature of BJP’s relationship with these power companies.”

According to Kejriwal, Upadhyay owns 6,000 shares in New Delhi Communication Network (NCNL) that provides services like installation and replacement of meters to power discoms. Kejriwal alleged Upadhyay and his wife have 2,500 shares each in another company and Delhi BJP vice-president Ashish Sood was its former director.

“Their website reveals that it bagged the best vendor award from Reliance Energy, it is No. 1 in BSES’s metering work and till date has installed and replaced meters in Delhi. Installing and replacing meters is done by Satish Upadhyay’s company. People of Delhi have been alleging that these meters are running fast. This is the reason, why the AAP government had ordered probe into installation of the meters,” Kejriwal said.

He further said, “Satish Upadhyay should answer these questions — How many meters have been supplied so far by the companies owned by Satish Upadhyay and Ashish Sood? From whom did they buy these meters and at what price? For how much did they sell these meters to BSES?

“BJP has made the owner of these power companies, Anil Ambani, an ambassador of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The people of Delhi want to know how deep is the relationship between the BJP and power companies,” the AAP leader further said.

The party raised concerns about the reasons behind BJP not fulfilling its pre-poll promise of 30 per cent reduction in power tariff in the capital. AAP leaders pointed out that instead of reduction in power tariffs, the past seven months have seen the rates being increased twice.

“If the people of Delhi get to know that the Delhi BJP leader is behind the installation of these electric meters, the BJP should start worrying about the outcome of the upcoming polls,” he said.

On being asked about the manner in which this information reached the party, Kejriwal said, “An insider in the BJP has given us this information. We cannot reveal more details as it will harm our source.”
