A 23-year-old resident of Gurgaon has been arrested for allegedly killing two people “for timepass”, said police.

Gurgaon Police had been looking for the accused, identified as Sandeep, for the last five months, said sources. When asked why he committed the murders, Sandeep allegedly told police “bas ho gaya” (it just happened). He has shown no remorse over the crimes and can be seen smiling in all the police photographs, said sources.

“He killed the first victim in November last year and the second one a few days ago, at the Transport Nagar fields behind the Indian Air Force station. We have also arrested a minor boy who was his partner-in-crime,” said Station House Officer, Sadar police station, Vijay Kumar. The two murders were committed 500 metres away from each other, said police.

Sandeep, a school dropout, is a resident of Gurgaon’s Naharpur Rupa village. His nickname, according to his neighbours, was ‘timepass’ as he would often sit outside his home and while away time.

The accused, who was often inebriated, often picked up fights with passers-by, said police sources. During questioning, Sandeep told police he was drunk when he killed the two victims “for timepass”, said sources.

However, investigation has revealed that on February 21, Sandeep had a fight with the second victim, after which he allegedly hit him with a rock and killed him.

One of Sandeep’s neighbours said, “He had started working as a auto-rickshaw driver but that did not last. He would often come home drunk and pick up fights with us.”
