Around town : Zamrudpur Metro collapse accused granted bail

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Gammon India officials accused of negligence for the collapse of the Zamrudpur Metro pier in 2009 appeared in a city court on Monday.

New Delhi:The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Gammon India officials accused of negligence for the collapse of the Zamrudpur Metro pier in 2009 appeared in a city court on Monday. They were released on bail of Rs 10,000 each and a surety of an equal amount. The CBI had filed a chargesheet against 24 people,including personnel from DMRC,GIL and Arch Consultancy.

Spurned lover kills woman,stabs self

Loni:A 40-year-old man allegedly murdered a woman,for spurning his advances,and then stabbed himself on Monday. Sunita (32),mother of four and a labourer,was in a relationship with Prem. When Sunita’s husband came to know of the the relationship,he told Prem to stay away,police said. Sunita,too,refused to meet him. On Monday,Prem went to Sunita’s home where the two had an argument. Sunita’s eldest son found the two dead when he came home later in the day,police said.

Two doctors arrested for molestation

New Delhi:Two doctors of a medical college in Defence Colony have been arrested on charges of molestation. A 20-year-old medical student of a homeopathic college in Defence Colony had approached the college administration in June alleging sexual harassment. She told police that the two doctors had also passed racist comments at her.

One arrested for Karkardooma murder

New Delhi:Police claimed to have arrested one person for the death of a man who was allegedly pushed to death from the third floor of a building in the Karkardooma court complex. Police said Manoj is the leader of a gang of pick-pockets and the victim,Nazim (35),was also a pick-pocket. On July 17,Manoj tried to extort money from Nazim,and when he refused,the gang leader pushed him off the third floor,police said.
