MCD to treat garbage at Ghazipur landfill

NEW DELHI: After treating the garbage at the Okhla and Bhalswa landfill sites,the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is all set to treat the one at Ghazipur. Stating that it intends to generate energy from garbage dumped at Ghazipur,leader of the House in MCD Subhash Arya said,“This scheme will remove 46 lakh metric tonnes of garbage from the site in a span of 10 years. About Rs 250 crore will be spent on processing garbage at Ghazipur.”

Meeting to discuss Millennium Bus Depot

NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday informed the Delhi High Court that it is going to convene a special meeting to decide on all contentious issues pertaining to the Millennium Bus Depot. The government’s standing counsel,Najmi Waziri,stated that the proposed meeting will take a final call on several environmental issues raised through PILs by Vinod Jain and Anand Arya. Fixing the matter for March 21,the court asked Waziri to inform the court regarding the meeting’s outcome by then.

Fake mineral water racket busted,7 held

GURGAON: Police have arrested seven persons involved in bottling and marketing fake mineral water in Gurgaon,and are hunting for the main accused. Four truckloads of water bottles were seized from their possession. Police said they will conduct searches in Delhi,from where the gang used to get labels of reputed mineral water manufacturers. The racketeers used to obtain authentic licences for the purpose.

Mishap: Bus driver denied probation

NEW DELHI: A city court has denied probation to a bus driver,who was sentenced to a year in jail for causing death due to rash driving. “Considering that the accused drove the bus in such a rash and negligent manner that he crushed the head of the victim under its wheels,this court does not find grounds for releasing him on probation,” Additional Sessions Judge Narinder Kumar said.
