Man gets jail for carrying heroin
NEW DELHI: Special Judge M K Nagpal on Wednesday convicted Tarsem Singh (52) under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act for carrying 7 kg of heroin. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had arrested Tarsem Singh after the contraband was recovered from his car. The prosecution has successfully proved that the accused was in possession of the drug and was also part of a criminal conspiracy to deal in contraband substances, the judge said.
CM inspects interceptor sewage work
NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday inspected the work of the interceptor sewer system,currently on in the Najafgarh drain in Kakrola Mod. The interceptor sewer project is an initiative of the Delhi Jal Board to tackle pollution in the Yamuna. The interceptor system is being laid along three major drains Najafgarh,Supplementary and Shahdara. The project aims to ensure that the three drains,which account for 75 per cent of the sewage pollution in the river,carry only treated effluent.
Court upholds sentence in accident case
NEW DELHI: Additional Sessions Judge Virender Kumar Goel upheld the sentence of a man sent to jail for six months for causing the death of a toddler in an accident 13 years ago. Rohini resident Jai Prakash had been convicted and sentenced by a magisterial court for the offence in 1999. Prakash had challenged his conviction through an appeal,which was dismissed by the Sessions court on Wednesday.
