College student leader faints,dies
NEW DELHI: A 19-year-old student and president of the students union at Vivekanand College died on Thursday evening in East Delhis Vivek Vihar. Police said Kanika Sharma complained of stomach ache after having a soft drink and fainted. She was taken to the ESI Hospital where she died,police said. The police have seized the soft drink bottle to examine its contents. A case has been registered at the Vivek Vihar police station and investigations are underway.
Metro gets machines for cardio emergencies
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro on Thursday equipped two of its busiest stations with medical equipment for cardiac arrest emergencies. Automated External Defibrillators (AED) were installed at the Central Secretariat and the Kashmere Gate Metro stations. These reliable,accessible and easy-to-use AEDs will come in handy,particularly in a crowded station if a commuter suffers a cardiac arrest, a DMRC spokesman said. The AEDs send an electric shock to the heart and prompt it to return to normal rhythm. AEDs can be used even by non-medical personnel.
MCD seeks report on illegal posters,banners
New Delhi: The MCD commissioner has given the deputy commissioners of all 12 zones a week’s time to submit a detailed action-taken report against illegal banners,posters and hoardings defacing public property. The move comes after a PIL was filed in the Delhi High Court,seeking comments from the authorities on the issue. In the letter sent to all the Deputy Commissioners ,K S Mehra has instructed that relevant photographs should be attached to the report. The zonal commissioners have also been asked to provide details of FIRs lodged with concerned police stations under provisions of Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act,2007.
