Sunanda death: Won’t question Tharoor for now, say police

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Saturday said it is not going to question Congress MP Shashi Tharoor for now in connection with the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar. Police said they would first examine other people related to the case and look at available evidence. “This approach will help us pose those questions to him which would arise during the questioning of others,” an officer said.

5 more cases of swine flu reported in city

New Delhi: Five new cases of swine flu were reported on Saturday in Delhi, taking the total number of cases to 40 this year. Among the cases reported are a 45-year-old man admitted to Aruna Asaf Ali hospital, a 44-year-old man from Mahavir Nagar at Sir Ganga Ram hospital, a 16-year-old boy from Prem Nagar admitted at RML hospital, a 23-year-old woman from Ashok Vihar at St Stephen’s hospital and a 35-year-old woman from Siddhartha Extension admitted to Holy Family hospital.

Ex-power secy’s wife summoned by court

New Delhi: Former Delhi Power Secretary R K Verma’s wife has been summoned as an accused by a Delhi court for allegedly not declaring money stashed in an undisclosed company in the United Kingdom’s British Virgin Islands. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Devender Kumar Sharma took cognizance on the complaint filed by the Income Tax Department and issued summons to Ritu Verma to appear before it on February 9.

Man held for throwing acid on woman

New Delhi: A 38-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly throwing acid on a 29-year-old woman on Friday night. Police said the incident was reported from Northwest Delhi’s Keshavpuram area. The woman sustained 8-10 per cent burns and has been admitted to Safdarjung hospital, police said. In her statement, she named her landlord, Manjeet, as the one who threw acid on her.

UP seeks to include 6 districts in NCR

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government wants six more UP districts to be included in the National Capital Region and will soon send a proposal in this regard to the UD Ministry. The proposed districts are Mathura, Aligarh, Hathras, Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar and Shamli.
