19-yr-old held for raping mentally challenged minor
New Delhi:A 19-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for raping a 12-year-old mentally challenged girl at his house in Burari,North Delhi. The man has been sent to judicial custody. He lured the mentally challenged girl into his house on the pretext of giving her something to eat. He raped the girl,but was caught by neighbours, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sindhu Pillai said.
Man held for making hoax call to police
New Delhi:A 23-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly making hoax calls to police,leading to bomb scare. Subodh Singh alias Monti was arrested for making a PCR call on April 7,saying that a bomb would explode at Jama Masjid. Nothing suspicious was found (at Jama Masjid). Investigation into the call led police to one Shera Bibi, DCP (Central) Alok Kumar said. Probe revealed that the call was made by her son-in-law,Monti.
Power shortfall leads to outages in city
New Delhi:On Wednesday Delhi city received 280 MW less power from the Damodar Valley Corporation plants. Sources in the Delhi government said generating problems with power plants,presumably because of coal shortage,led to the shortfall. Power department officials said the situation is manageable,as the demand has not peaked yet. Due to the shortfall,there were power cuts in parts of East,West and North Delhi.
Layout plans of four colonies approved
New Delhi:The Standing Committee of South Municipal Corporation has approved the layout plans of four colonies. The layout plan of Jain Colony in Uttam Nagar (Najafgarh),Rajouri Garden Extension (West),Dr Ambedkar Colony (South) and Shakti Vihar Colony (Central) will be prepared and submitted to the committee.
Policeman,passerby injured as man opens fire
New Delhi:A Head Constable posted in New Friends Colony,Southeast Delhi,and a passerby were injured when a man the policeman was chasing opened fire on Wednesday night. Head Constable Bobby and a woman,identified as Kalawati,were injured in the firing.
