A man attacked his wife with a pickaxe,resulting in her death in Delhi Cantonment area of Southwest Delhi. Police said that the incident was reported at 2.30 pm on Saturday.
The accused,identified as Vijender Kumar (57),is an alcoholic and often had violent fights with his wife,Somwati (50).
His two eldest sons lived separately on account of his quarrelsome nature,said the police.
On Friday night,Kumar went back home (8/121 in Naraina Nagar) reportedly in an inebriated state and had a fight with his wife. He did not even let her cook dinner. On Saturday morning,the fight continued and close to 1.30 pm,he started attacking her.

Vijender started assaulting her and later got hold of a pickaxe. He attacked her face,nose and neck and fled the spot. A neighbour noticed the body and called the police. A severely bleeding Somwati was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital. She gave her statement and later succumbed to injuries, a senior police official,investigating the case said.
Police said the couples youngest son,Anil Kumar (27) was set to get married on May 19.
Vijender works as a fourth grade employee in Army Hospital. The couple has four sons. Police officials said that Vijender was in jail for attempting to murder his brother. He had been released on Thursday. A case of murder has been registered in Delhi Cantonment.
