Police claimed to have busted an illegal arms racket, after the arrest of three persons near Okhla Mandi. The three arrested have been identified as Chand Babu, Faiyaz Ray and Mohammed Nazru.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) M S Randhawa said a special team had been working to crack down on the supply of illegal arms from Munger in Bihar.
“On Thursday, we received information that arms would be delivered outside Okhla Mandi.
We spotted three suspicious-looking persons waiting with a bag and arrested them. We recovered 9 pistols, 17 magazines, one revolver and 19 live cartridges. A case has been filed against them at Amar Colony police station,” the DCP said.
During questioning, police said the three admitted that they received the consignment from a Munger-based arms manufacturer.
Police said the gang received a similar consignment, once every fortnight.
Nazru, a resident of Bulandshar, would receive information about the arms after which he would contact the other two, a senior police officer said.
Police said Nazru received a cut for supplying each consignment to his associates in Delhi and NCR.
Police are now trying to identify who bought the weapons. “The head of the gang is Nazru, who claims he has been in the trade for the last 10 years. However, this is the first time he has been arrested,” the officer said.
