Armed men rob Pitampura rice trader of Rs 83 lakh

According to police,the incident was reported around 8 pm from Lawrence Road near Britannia Circle,Pitampura.

Unidentified armed men looted Rs 83 lakh in cash from the employees of a businessman in Pitampura,Northwest Delhi,on Tuesday night.

According to police,the incident was reported around 8 pm from Lawrence Road near Britannia Circle,Pitampura.

The complainant,Vijay Goel who is a rice trader,told police that the robbery took place right in front of his house. He said three of his employees — Atma Ram,Sonu and driver Amar Singh — had come to the shop to deliver the cash collected on that day. The three were in a car,Goel claimed.

“As soon as they reached Goel’s residence and were opening the boot of the car to bring out the bad of cash,seven armed men reached the spot on three bikes and held them at gun-point,They snatched the bag and fled,” a police officer said.

“A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code at Maurya Enclave police station. Several teams have been deputed to nab the assailants,” the officer said.

Police said the three employees and the watchman of the society,who was reportedly not on duty at the time of the incident,have been questioned.

Investigators are also not ruling out the possibility of an insider being involved as the robbers were

aware of the cash being transported to Goel’s residence.

Police have also scanned the CCTV footage of the surrounding areas to identify the assailants. Senior officers claimed they had some leads in the case and arrests were likely soon.
