Authorities of Sahara Mall on Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road have applied to the Deputy Excise and Tax Commissioner for cancellation of liquor licences of bars and pubs which tit claimed was illegally occupying the mall premises despite the mall management terminating their agreement with these outlets.
The mall management has requested the department not to renew the liquor licences of these establishments for the next financial year.
According to mall authorities,it has terminated agreements with Blue Eye Pub,Lovely Obsession Restaurant ,Prison Pub and IPSA Hospitality and have asked them to vacate the mall premises. The authorities said they were in the process of initiating legal proceedings against these establishments.
The mall management said it had earlier restrained some restaurants from converting into pub or bar as it was in violation of the lease agreement.
In addition to this,the management had urged the government to cancel the licences of all pubs operating in Sahara Mall and requested authorities to not to issue any new licence.
The mall management on Tuesday said all efforts in the past to make pub owners maintain decorum in their establishments went in vain,forcing the management to terminate lease agreements of the three pubs.
The two other pubs in the mall are running on sold property,the management said.
The mall management has also written to Gurgaon Commissioner of Police seeking more security for mall visitors,shop owners.
Deputy commissioner of taxation and excise department Aruna Singh said: As far as legality of pubs are concerned,the matter is subjudice. I cannot comment on that matter. As far as renewing of liquor licences is concerned,we have our own norms and after examining a particular case,if all the criteria are fulfilled, only then is the licence renewed.
