AAP MLA Mahinder Yadav arrested for allegedly leading violent protest

Police claimed Yadav led a violent protest on Thursday evening in Nihal Vihar area in West Delhi following sexual assault on a three-year-old girl and the mob even attacked public vehicles and tried to set a vehicle on fire.

AAP MLA Mahendra Yadav was arrested Friday on charges of rioting and assaulting a public servant during a protest a day earlier seeking action against an alleged sexual offender in West Delhi Nihal Vihar area. A city court sent the MLA from Vikaspuri to one-day police custody.

According to police, Yadav led a violent protest in Nihal Vihar area Thursday evening, a day after a three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 45-year-old relative. The police also alleged that the mob attempted to set a vehicle on fire.

Metropolitan Magistrate Harvinder Singh allowed Delhi Police plea to interrogate Yadav till Saturday. Police told the court his custody was required to identify others involved in the offence during the protest.

The court granted bail to four other accused arrested in the case. They were released on personal bond of Rs 20,000 each and a surety of like amount.

According to police,Yadav led the protest near Nihal Vihar police station” “Yadav was the leader and was inciting the mob. He along with a few others damaged the glass of a police gyps”,” said DCP (West) Pushpendra Kumar” “We have CCTV footage and and are making him identify other people in the mo”,” added Kumar.

Police have arrested the alleged rapist. The child was admitted to hospital.
