Nearly a year after the Delhi serial blasts,the Special Cell of the Delhi Police is going to file a chargesheet against a suspected member of Indian Mujahideen (IM) Mohammad Akbar Ismail Choudhary in a day or two,according to sources.
Choudhary was allegedly a member of the media wing of the outfit and was responsible for sending out terror emails to TV channels after a string of explosions that occurred in Delhi,Surat,Ahmedabad and Bangalore.
Choudhary was arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) along with 14 other IM members between September 28 and October 5 last year from Pune,Mumbai and several places in Uttar Pradesh. Choudhary was brought to Delhi by the Special Cell on June 11 this year.
An official said,Choudhary played an important role in sending mails after the blasts in various cities. He was actively involved in the Delhi blasts and was in touch with Mohammad Atif Ameen,who was shot dead in the September 19 encounter at Batla House,and Mansoor Asghar Peerbhoy in Mumbai. He used to recce areas with unsecured WiFi connections. He was entrusted with the task of sending mails,along with others,and had collected the email IDs of all TV channels.
The supplementary chargesheet,which will be filed by the police in a day or two,will the eighth chargesheet filed in the Delhi blasts case.
Sources said Choudhary has been charged under various sections,including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act,the Explosive Substances Act and the Information Technology Act.
Evidence has been collected and there are enough witnesses who have given statements about his involvement, the source added. Sources said he was associated with Riyaz Bhatkal,leader of IM,Atif Ameen and Peerbhoy (head of the media wing) for a long time.
Choudhary was earlier taken into custody by the Mumbai and Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squads as well as the Hyderabad and Bangalore Police,and his involvement in the blasts there was established.
The Special Cell had registered five FIRs in the September 13 Delhi serial blasts at the Connaught Place,Greater Kailash,Karol Bagh and Tilak Marg police stations.
Five main chargesheets were filed against members of Delhi IM module Mohammad Saif,Zeeshan Ahmed,Zia-ur-Rehman,Saqib Nisar,Mohammad Shakeel,Mohammad Sadiq Sheikh,Qayamuddin Kapadia and Mohammad Hakim in December and February. Two supplementary chargesheets were filed against Mansoor Asghar Peerbhoy,Mobin Kader Sheikh,Asif Bashir Sheikh and Mohammad Hakim in April this year.
