Alleged child molester arrested in Mathura, police say

According to a press statement, the arrested accused was identified as Shyam alias Harsh (24) who was arrested by police on around 2 pm on Friday near Kadamb Vihar Cut.

Mathura Police arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly molesting two girls, one of whom is a minor, and threatening them, police said on Friday. A video of the alleged incident had surfaced on social media.

According to a press statement, the arrested accused was identified as Shyam alias Harsh (24) who was arrested by police on around 2 pm on Friday near Kadamb Vihar Cut.

The arrest came three days after the girls’ father filed a complaint with the police. According to police, on November 4, the victims’ father filed a written complaint alleging that the accused had accosted his daughters and threatened them.

The Mathura Police on the basis of the complaint of the father registered an FIR under Sections 74(assault), 127(1) (wrongful cofinement), 115(2)(voluntarily causing hurt), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 79 (insult the modesty of a woman) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Sections 7/8 of the POCSO Act.

Talking to The Indian Express, the area Station House Officer said the accused was on the run and was arrested by a team of police on Friday. “We have sent him to jail,” he said. The SHO said that he knew both the girls, one of whom is a minor. Further investigation is underway,” he added.
